Dona Berta Vineyards of Avô Reserve Red 2018
Dona Berta Vinhas do Avô Reserva Red 2018 is a tribute to the brand's founder, Eng. Hernâni Verdelho. As the name suggests, the aim was to produce a wine that highlighted the quality of the grapes, which come from a very old vineyard, around 100 years old, and the excellence of the Freixo de Numão terroir – one of the best in the Douro for table wines – thanks to its high altitude.
The aroma is rich, somewhat discreet at first, with notes of wild berries, reminiscent of blueberries, dried vegetables, wet earth and oak vanilla. In the mouth it is balanced and elegant, associated with rich tannins and some minerality. The finish is triumphant, leaving good memories.
The wine is ready to drink, especially for those who enjoy young wines, however it will improve a lot with time in the bottle, and it is worth keeping some to follow its evolution. Only 1300 bottles were bottled, all individually numbered.
It has not been treated with cold, so a slight precipitate may form over time, which in no way affects the quality of the wine.
