She holds a degree in Chemical Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a Master's degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of La Rioja. She began her career as an oenologist in 1999, at Quinta do Côtto, having later worked as a winemaker at Quita do Crasto between 2002 and 2007. Both estates are located in the Douro. Since the 2007 harvest, she has worked as a consultant for various producers in the Alentejo.

In addition to Alentejo wines, Susana Esteban established a partnership with her friend and fellow winemaker, Sandra Tavares, in 2011 to produce wine in partnership. The first fruit of this partnership was called “Crochet”, a wine produced in the Douro.
