Alvarinho”, Anselmo Mendes.
In 2015, I accepted the challenge of a friend and made the most of a small vineyard planted in one of the highest places in Monção and over 70 years ago, I created the Zafirah wine. A red wine with minimal intervention that aims to be a tribute to the famous red wines from Monção that were exported to England and Flanders in the XIV and XV years. Currently, efforts are being made to recover the oldest red grape strains that exist in the region to put more emphasis on the red wines of Monção and Melgaço, previously so famous and compared to the wines of Borgoña and Burdeos.
Naturally, working with Mr. Alvarinho was difficult to resist, also producing Alvarinho wine. But it had to be something that clearly showed its vision of the variety and its unique terroir. Then, using a small vineyard close to the place where he explored the paints, he selected a vineyard planted about 250 meters away and started the Affluent wine.
