The Casa e Quinta de Paços probably owes its name to an old palace (lat. palatiu, also called lat. villa) from the time when the parish of Stª Eulália de Rio Côvo was a Roman spa. The first references to vineyards in the Morgadio do Perdigão (Carvalhas) and Quinta de Paços (Rio Covo, Santa Eulália) date back to the 15th and 16th centuries, respectively.

The Quinta de Paços estate covers around 200 hectares and is spread across six different estates, five of which are in the municipality of Barcelos and another in the municipality of Monção - Casa do Capitão-mor or Quinta da Boavista (Mazedo). Quinta de Paços has been in the same family for over 500 years and for at least 15 generations.
